Frequently Asked Questions
What are your qualifications?
I am a home school teacher and math tutor for children in south Orange County. My bachelor's degree is in mathematics and my master's degree is in business administration. I have extensive experience with technology, literary studies and writing. I was previously the managing editor of OC Moms. I love teaching and working with kids! Read more about me here, or take a look at my resume.
Are you insured?
Yes! Kids summer classes will be held in my fully insured home learning center.
Why do classes run for 10 weeks?
It's my experience that children don't retain information as well in week-long, intensely focused camps. Summer Bridge: Math & Language Arts and Math Mastery: Arithmetic Fun especially require sustained engagement and continuing practice over a period of time.
What if I have to miss a class?
Summer Bridge: Math & Language Arts sessions may be rescheduled with 48 hours notice. Other childrens classes do not have make-up sessions but, with advanced notice, missed work may be completed at home so students don't fall behind.
Will my charter school pay for classes?
If you still have budget remaining for the school year, your charter may cover the cost of kids summer classes from your funds. Contact your charter for more information.
What if I have to cancel a class?
Cancellations are accepted through May 31 and refunded minus a 20% administrative fee. Materials, kits, and book purchases are non-refundable.
What payment do you accept?
Cash or personal check.

A note from your teacher
I'm so excited about this summer's program! Our small class sizes mean kids have more opportunity to connect, learn from each other, and work directly with me. We also have an awesome, diverse curriculum of language arts, math, and STEM — integrated Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics — like our robotics class.
The College Board announced last fall that mean SAT scores in reading have fallen to their lowest level in nearly 40 years. There is definitely a trend away from valuing the "soft subjects" as STEM becomes important for our ability to compete globally. And although, as a math teacher, I believe strongly in the importance of a STEM curriculum, I know that effective communication skills — writing, speaking, and even video presentation — are just as important.
Good readers make good communicators, and reading is critical to success as a life-long learner. According to a recent study by Cornell University psychology professor Shimon Edelman, the key to happiness is continual change and intellectual growth. I want our kids to achieve not just on test scores, but in life — which is why I've made literature, poetry and language arts integral components to our summer schedule. I hope to instill in my students a passion and love for language, and the ability to be independent learners for life.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email. I can't wait to meet you!
Sincerely,
Amy Stevens
